October 12-18, 2004

Well, the MASP was a great experience, despite mother nature throwing high winds at us during the day time hours. I got there Thursday noon, set up the telescope and promptly "bagged it" for the night since the weather forecast called for rain (it rained at 3:30am on Friday).

Friday and Saturday nights were OK. Clear to mostly clear skies, we just had to get through the 15-20 mph wind gusts during the day before sunset and then the winds died down to managable speeds.

Saw lots of stuff...M15, M13, M57, Double CLuster, M31, M33, to name a few.

Not a bad affair! I got home Sunday evening. Took about 6 hours to get down to Robbins, NC, and about 5 1/2 hours to get back. 318 miles one way.

I am from Salisbury, NC. This was the first year that I was able to attend MASP. I brought my two younger children with me. We had a ball! We spent one night and slept in the van. The skies were incredibly clear that Friday night.

We had brought our own telescope but had so much fun looking through the others that people had brought we used ours very little. We were very impressed and pleased with the accommodations. Everyone who we met was very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to share. The food was great and very reasonably priced.

The lectures were interesting and the speakers were very knowledgeable on the topics they spoke on. The location was fantastic. It was a beautiful area and was just perfect for the star party. Can't wait to come back in November next year. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in star gazing and astronomy attend. Thanks again. See you next year. I have attached ten photos we took for your website if you choose to use them.
